I believe the plot to this story is that Santiago begins as a good shepherd all because he wanted to travel the world and he knew that he was good at taking care of his sheep. One day he had a dream of a child telling him about a treasure being in Egypt for him. He then went to some woman who told him to go to Egypt and also meets the King of Salem who he sells six sheep to and had told him the same thing the women had told him to go to Egypt and to follow the omens. He then starts his personal legend and starts his journey to Egypt but he sure did went through a few obstacles and danger getting to the Pyramids. When he gets to Egypt he finds out that all along his treasure was within him the whole time, this journey had taught him how strong he was and how much he didn't give up to his dreams. The thesis to this book is that you should always fulfill your dreams and goal and not let anything or anyone get in the way of that.
The ending of the book really hit me, the reason it did was because all the things he went through to get to where he wanted to go and when he had gotten there he found out that the whole time the treasure was himself and that he had to go through that whole adventure just to realize it. The reason that this part has hit me is because I went through something similar. One day, in 9th grade my teacher had told the class we had a big test that was worth half our grade the next week unexpectedly. That day I went straight to studying, I studied everyday until the day of the test and I was excited because I knew that I was going to ace it. Then my teacher gave us the test and after the test she had told that she was not giving us credit because this test was to see who studied and what we know so that she can work on it more. I learned how much I wanted to pass this test and at the end I realized although she was not putting the test into the gradebook I still made sure I was prepared for it and I realized that I do care about my future and I really want to get far in life and I will make sure that I am always organized and prepared.
I honestly do not have anything negative to say about this book. I absolutely loved everything about it, in the beginning of the book it immediately attracted my attention. It kept me wanting to read it and read it because I wanted to know what would happen next and I wanted to see if he would find the treasure and his reaction to the treasure. I thought that it would be predictable because at the end I just that he would find the treasure and that he would have just make it to his destination but instead it turned out to be something more deeper than that, it taught a lesson to many readers and I love books that sends a message. I just wish that the book was longer.
Yes, I would recommend the book to a friend because it sends a good message and it could probably open someone else's eyes. I think it would be good for people who struggle and is at point of giving up. I know people who do things to make others happy and not themselves happy, they do not follow their heart or dreams they just do what they think will be right for the other and I think this book would be good for them.
The Alchemist
fear is never near
if it is nothing you can hear
what makes it real
nothing
its a hallucination
something I never noticed
until I started to get focused
I had a higher thought to be a protest
but theres no less
of something to guess
of what can happen
next
in the faith of text
it never states
what man really hates
in comparison to what it takes
to make a option
that will save your space
Kim,
ReplyDeleteGreat work on your book review. I am glad that you enjoyed the book and that you thought it was a page-turner. There are many lessons in the book, and I am happy that you pulled many to apply to your life, your adventure.
Good summary of the plot. You mentioned a few key characters that greatly influenced Santiago's journey. Your review made me think: wow, the old gyspsy lady and the king set Santiago on this trip. They affirmed his desire. They were omens, too. But there were only two people - these two - that put the wind in his sails. Sometimes, we don't need multiple messages. Maybe two is just enough to cause us to take action for ourselves. Sometimes, it just takes one inspiring person or conversation.
I also like how you gave an example from your life - in relation to what you read in the book. Nice touch.
Great poem. I like the lessons and morals that are threaded through it. I also like the flow - it has a hip hop cadence that keeps it going and keeps the reader leaning into each new line.
Only suggestion: write a little bit more. Let more out.
Excellent!
